Reflecting on a Starry Night

This image shows The Milky Way stretching over Cathedral Rock. I shot the image mid-March at “Secret Slickrock” accessible via the Ridge Trail. The hike from the trailhead on Chavez Crossing Road is only a third of a mile long. March is one of the windiest months in Sedona, and this night was no exception. I took multiple images to get the cleanest reflection. The photo is a composite of a longer focus stacked foreground image and one taken an hour later at 4 AM when the Milky Way was in a perfect position to frame Cathedral Rock. The picture shows three of the four peaks of Cathedral Rock.   One can hike to two of the saddles shown by scrambling up Cathedral Rock’s east side.
