Cathedral at Oak Creek by Elaine Belvin

Cathedral Rock is an iconic landmark on the Sedona, Arizona skyline, and is one of the most-photographed sights in Arizona. Geologically, it is carved from the Permian Schnebly Hill formation, a redbed sandstone formed from coastal sand dunes near the shoreline of the ancient Pedregosa Sea.  Cathedral Rock can be photographed from various vantage points in Sedona.   Over the years, the trees have grown taller along Oak Creek, blocking some of the view of Cathedral.  This image was taken from a higher vantage point to get a view of Cathedral, its reflection and the fall color.
