School of The Arts

Sedona is surrounded by a magical landscape of red rock formations and high desert hills with beautiful Oak Creek meandering through it all. Come experience the Shangri-La of the Southwest, a beautiful learning environment with Art Colony roots going back nearly 100 years!

The Ceramics Department is headed by Dennis Ott, winner of the 2018 Governor’s Arts Award of Arizona for Arts Education and the City of Sedona Mayor’s Arts Award for Arts Instruction. Dennis Ott and Lolo Aileen teach classes for all levels and Neil Kennedy teaches Pottery Wheel for Beginners and Hand Building. Sedona Arts Center Donors receive a 10% discount on ongoing ceramics courses.

Field Expeditions are created around the idea of a perfect match between an artist, a special place and the best season to explore that location. We work with local resources and providers to create an exclusive one-of-a-kind experience for participating artists/students. Field Expeditions are designed with expert instruction and support staff. There is no replacement for experiencing life directly with great instruction in a unique location!

Sedona Arts Center’s Online Classes and Workshops are perfect for students who are interested in taking one of our educational opportunities, but are unable to travel. These learning opportunities provide a well-rounded experience in various visual art mediums.

Workshops offer an intensive experience that will provide inspiration and information to distill and practice for months and even years afterwards. A wide variety of disciplines and mediums are offered. Most are appropriate for all levels of students with a few designed specifically for intermediate and advanced students. Workshops are listed in chronological order in each interest area.

Sedona Arts Center’s Crash Courses are perfect for beginners, those wanting a refresher, or artists in search of new creative tools. These learning opportunities provide a well-rounded experience in various visual art mediums. Because Crash Courses include all materials, they have no membership discount.

Scholarship awards will pay 50% towards any Class or Workshop tuition. Scholarships are not available for international Field Expeditions or Painting in the Grand Canyon. The Sedona Arts Center awards scholarships to students only when funds are available.
