About the artist

Biography

From thrown clay to form large, thin-walled vessels to hand built figures, Jeff has been a master of ceramics for most of his life. Brought to Arizona at a very young age Jeff became associated with the Verde Valley School where he has taught for over 30 years. Nassan Gobran, founder of the Sedona Arts Center, was an early instructor, encouraging Jeff to pursue art in a clay form. Influenced by ancient and primitive art, the pieces emerge from imagination, often with animal & bird influences. The work is spontaneous and intuitive, letting the torn clay and textured slabs become the figure. Letting the thrown work develop into large cylinder forms over many hours.
