Anita Elias (b. 1960, Mexico City)

Lives and Works: Sedona, AZ

Anita Elias explores the duality of controlled obsessive detail vs. accidental design. Both aimed at eliciting visceral reactions to color, symbols, order and chaos.

Her varied art work includes multicolor acrylic pours that can reflect and project the viewer’s perspective; excruciating detailed ink designed to challenge the input of visual information and the perplexity of hidden visuals and surreal associations. This year her exploration of different mediums brought her to the use of clay, papier Mache, paper clay and an array of construction materials to add to her never ending mixed media projects.

Born and raised in Mexico City, Anita grew up roaming thru the corridors of all the great city museums as well as the colorful marketplaces of her childhood neighborhoods.  The impact of such magic imagery instilled a passion for color, form and mystery. With a background in Performing Arts and later on as a human connectivity strategist around the globe, Anita’s work reflects her own multicultural upbringing. With no borders, no rules and no boundaries as a self-taught artist, her art is inspired by color theory, history and folk art, brut concrete and tribal magic traditions. All carried by a variety of mediums such as acrylic, paper, clay, glass, mixed media, ink and resin.

Private collections in the USA, Middle East, Mexico and Canada.
