Discover the art of handmade books in this immersive, hands-on workshop! Over two days, you’ll explore three unique bookbinding techniques—beginning with a simple pamphlet stitch and progressing to more intricate styles. Along the way, we’ll experiment with decorating covers and pages using a variety of artistic mediums, making each book a one-of-a-kind creation.
Your instructor will introduce the essential tools and guide you step-by-step through preparing pages, assembling covers, and binding your books by hand. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with three beautifully finished books in different formats—plus the knowledge and instructions to continue your book-making journey at home.

I am a rag and bone artist. Using an array of mixed media techniques, I form a new narrative from natural elements and discarded items which have been left behind. I recycle and shape the beautiful out of the leftovers.
After two years of formal art training in my college years, life took me on a long detour into another career while supporting my family. Fourteen years ago I returned to art, taking many classes to re-fresh my skills and learn new techniques. I embarked on a long awaited, completely different, new career.
I live, create, and exhibit my work in local galleries and book stores in Long Beach and Laguna Beach, California. I have exihibited various sculptures and books in Pennsylvania, Illinois, and New York. I have participated in numerous annual shows in my hometown as well as in Joshua Tree, California, Sedona, Arizona, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. I have completed two art residency programs at Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, New Mexico.
Beginning Bookmaking Materials List – Students please bring the following:
PVA glue
Glue stick
Matte or gel medium
Decorative or vintage paper scraps
Old photographs, letters
Small ephemera items
Scissors
Pencils, markers
Any acrylic and/or watercolor paints (favorite colors)
Paint brushes
Apron
Materials List – provided by Instructor for the $25 materials fee:
Bookmaking toolkit: thread, needles, ruler, awl, snips, bone folders
Three separate packets per student containing materials to complete each book presented in class, including:
Bookboard for book covers
Papers for book pages
Thread for sewing/binding books
Instruction worksheets explaining construction and binding techniques for each book

Classes must be paid in full upon registration.

Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express are accepted or student may pay with cash or check by registering in person during office hours Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm.
In-Person and Online Classes Cancellation
Payment in full is due upon registration, or a payment plan can be put in place by the student upon check-out through Sezzle.
There is a $125 Cancellation Fee for any cancellations made before September 3, 2026. Remaining balance will be refunded.
There are no refunds after September 3, 2026.
If Sedona Arts Center cancels the workshop for any reason, all payments made will be refunded in full.
Note: If traveling to Sedona, we strongly urge students to purchase refundable airline tickets or travel insurance in case of workshop cancellation due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen changes. Sedona Arts Center is not responsible for non-refundable ticket purchases or lodging fees.
Important Message
Sedona Arts Center is not responsible for providing make-up sessions or issuing refunds, credits, or transfers for courses missed as a result of illness, emergencies, or other events beyond our control.
