Artist Statement
I am an artist who utilizes a variety of media and subjects as a means for artistic expression. In composing a still-life, for instance, I use ordinary subject matter familiar to all of us. Through editing, simplifying, and thoughtful placement of elements, I hope to encourage the viewer to put aside preconceived ideas and look at the presentation in a different light. I use contrast through light and value to lend a sense of drama and give an abstract quality to the painting. Working mainly in watercolor, pastel, and oil, I produce works that include portraits, still-life, landscapes, and pure abstracts. Drawing and design are essential to my work. I am a member of AWA and a signature member of NAWS.
I live and have a studio and Gallery 465 at 2893 W. Sullivan Ranch Rd., Clarkdale Az. in lower Sycamore Canyon near the Reitz Ranch for Ceramic Arts. I also have a home and studio in Flagstaff. My works are in various private and public collections.
