Expressive Abstractions with Dina Wakley

February 27, 2020 - February 29, 2020

Join Dina Wakley for a 3-day class, Expressive Abstractions: From Page to Panel. We’ll work experimentally in our journals and then transfer our favorite ideas and concepts to panels for a triptych that is full of color and emotion.

Expressive Abstractions: From Page to Panel, $495
Teacher will provide: acrylic paint and mediums, stencils, marking tools, Stabilo pencils
Please bring: your favorite brushes, brush-cleaning cup/basin, scissors, two art journals in which to work, baby wipes/paper towels/rag, your favorite substrate (canvas or panel), 3 12×12 (or any size you wish to work on), a pad of watercolor paper (I will use 9×12, you can use any size).

There are two definitions of abstract art: 1) non-representational, and 2) representational but with details removed. I love both types of abstract work. Together we’ll make exploratory abstractions in our art journals. I will guide you through some of my favorite processes for loosening up, working organically, creating abstractions (non-representational as well as faces, figures, and flowers), and building on concepts and ideas. On day 3, we’ll take our favorite elements from those pages and transfer them to our panels, to create a triptych that is full of expression and color.

About Dina

Dina’s colorful, expressive style is anchored by her design hallmark, the creative use of white space. Her personal, organic design aesthetic strikes a balance between “artsy” and “classic”.

Dina is a mixed-media artist and teacher. She loves everything about art: creating it, thinking about it, looking at it, and teaching it. She has been scrapbooking since 1995, stamping since 1996, and art journaling since 2004. She believes in writing yourself down, expressing yourself, and making your mark on the world. As a Ranger Signature Designer, Dina designs a line of mixed-media art supplies that includes acrylic paints, mediums, brushes, rubber stamps, stencils, and more.

Dina lives in Arizona with her husband and 3 boys (affectionately termed “the fellas”). With a love of teaching and traveling, Dina travels the world to teach and share her art passion with students on every continent. Dina’s two books Art Journal Freedom and Art Journal Courage are available now.
