Artists from beginners to advanced levels find artistic freedom using the expressive medium of cold wax and oil. The application of cold wax mixed with oil paint and pigment lends greater depth, layering and multi-media language possibilities to painting surfaces and is appropriate for abstract and representational painting. In this two-day class, we will use oil paint and pigment with wax on gessoed multi-media boards, which are provided. We will embed paper scraps, photos and words into our pieces. We will use acrylic and water-based paints and inks as base layers, and multiple techniques to enhance finished pieces. Artists of all levels are invited to free up your artistic expression in this fun class which encourages us to paint and experiment without inhibition!
Lori will provide all paint, wax medium, multi-media supplies, tools, gessoed paint panels and reference materials. There is a $40 materials fee payable directly to the instructor on the first day. Students are encouraged to bring additional favorite papers, mark making tools and supplies as they wish. Click on the Materials List tab above for more complete information.
After introduction of techniques and demonstrations on both days, students will have plenty of time to explore and paint! On day-one we will learn basics and experiment. On day-two we will come back to our work with fresh perspectives to edit our work and create new work. We will explore the addition of multi-media applications to our work. An understanding of design and color mixing is helpful and creative problem solving is encouraged. This dynamic class is limited to 10 students to allow for one-on-one attention.
