CASEY CHEUVRONT

Casey Cheuvront studied drawing, painting, sculpture and ceramics at CSUF California, and has been influenced (and instructed) by current artists like Bill Cramer, Dave Santillanes, Alan Wolton, Matt Smith, Stanley Kurth, Casey Klahn, and Camille Przewodek.

Her work is informed by her ongoing plein air habit and life-long appreciation of the natural world, established through a “feet-on-the trail” connection over many years. Her outdoor education began when she was very young, while accompanying her father on long treks, fishing, hiking, bow-hunting, archery exhibitions and professional competitive archery shoots.  Later, she backpacked her way across the Sierras and the Uintas, flew California peaks in her hang glider, skied Utah powder, and mountain biked many happy trails in the Arizona desert.

Cheuvront’s pieces reveal an ongoing fascination with the Western and Southwestern wilderness, whether reflected in a local trail or a remote lake only reachable by a long backpack. Her enthusiasm is translated into a vibrant, modern palette and energetic, dynamic brushwork. Look for studio and plein air works showcasing the Yosemite highlands, Sonoran desert, and the red rocks of Sedona.

"I wanted to thank you again for your class and your generosity sharing your talent. You are a gifted instructor and artist with the ability to communicate your skills and inspire others. I have a piece in the Sedona Small Works show and this is partially your achievement as well. My reawakening into my fine art really was jumpstarted by your influence. So I thank you for that from the bottom of my heart. - Sending gratitude, M."

"Attending Casey Cheuvront’s retreat has been life-changing for me. I am somewhat new to oil painting and new to plein aire painting. (I loved art in high school, and than basically with the normal kids and career life stuff that comes up took a 30 year sabbatical) as I’ve been trying to get back into it, I’ve often encountered two extremes, either very shaming and harsh critiques that just make me want to quit doing art forever, or no direction, sunshine and rainbows, and I leave with a couple crappy pieces of art I force my husband to say he likes. In this workshop, I felt wonderfully supported, but also objectively critiqued. I felt Casey had this wonderful quality of being kind, while pushing me to be better. If you look at her art, it’s no question she is a talented artist. But Casey is also a supportive, kind and wonderful teacher, and I highly recommend taking her instruction whenever you can!" - Becky N. on a plein air painting retreat

"Being a great artist and being a great art teacher require two separate skill sets, and fortunately for me, Casey Cheuvront has both. I have taken two workshops from Casey and also watched teaching demos at meetings of Arizona Plein Air Painters. Her teaching style is logical, understandable, building one concept upon another, and also lively fun. At the recent workshop I attended in Yosemite, I heard other participants around the campfire at night, saying they had learned specific advice that they could incorporate into their art processes. During her daily demos, Casey showed the “whys” and the “why nots” with examples of both. My time and money were well spent. I really got a lot out of the workshop." - Rita G. on the 2024 Yosemite Oil Painting Retreat

"I took the high key/low key oil painting class [at Arizona Art Supply] from Casey and was thoroughly impressed with her knowledge of painting and how well she conveyed it. I had never painted with oil before and she went into the mechanics of the medium and great detail as to what materials to use and why. I came away after a four hour class with enough knowledge to proceed on my own with reasonable success. Can’t recommend her enough!" - Rosemary P.

"Casey, the comments I have gotten on your demo have been dazzling...everyone seems to have loved and learned a lot!" - M.S.R., on a Cloud Painting Demo for her area's Art League

"I am fairly new to oil painting but have taken other workshops and have been painting regularly for the last few months, so I didn’t think I needed the Oil Painting 101 class. I opted instead to take the next class that was offered: Working with a Limited Palette. But I learned so much in there and heard about so much about what had been covered in the Oil Painting 101 class that I think now I will go back and take that class after all. And I will be very interested in any other classes that Casey offers. I love her painting style as well her teaching style. She illustrates and explains concepts thoroughly and each student gets individual attention. She is very knowledgeable - not only about oil painting but about many facets of art and very generous with that knowledge. Time and money both well spent." - Mary H., on Oil Painting Basics: Working with a Limited Palette

"Have you spent hours on YouTube watching artists instruct and walked away with a million questions? Have you taken an in person workshop and wondered why you spent the money because you didn't learn anything? I have. If you're looking for really good, sound, art foundations from a real, practicing oil painter then you must take workshops with Casey! Not only does she know her stuff, she shares everything she knows graciously! She offers excellent, sound criticism that will improve your work and to top it off, she is a genuinely lovely person to spend time with!" - Nancy B., on Oil Painting Basics: A Little Knife Music

"Casey Cheuvront is a remarkable teacher. She is personable, knowledgeable, kind and generous in sharing her experiences and expertise. This class is foundational for anyone who contemplates painting in oil, and after attending the class, it is hard to imagine why you would not! The class time flies by, and is packed with information, demonstrations and tips about best practices and materials management. I highly recommend this class." - Susan R., on Oil Painting 101

"Casey is a knowledgeable teacher who is very generous with her knowledge and provides lots of individual attention in her classes. So far she has helped me to understand the process of painting clouds and she also introduced me to cold wax painting. I have no reservations about recommending any class she might teach." - Jan P., on private lessons
