Join award-winning artist Barbara Dahlstedt for an in-depth exploration of portraiture in colored pencil. This masterclass is designed to demystify the human face, guiding students through a thoughtful progression of exercises that transform uncertainty into confidence.
With an emphasis on light, subtle color transitions, and sensitive mark-making, students will learn to capture not just a likeness, but the presence of a person. Individual features—eyes, nose, mouth, hair, and skin tones—are studied during the first two days, culminating in a full portrait on day three.
Students may work from provided reference photo or bring a personal color photograph to inspire their final piece. All of the drawing paper will be provided by the instructor.

This was only my second workshop, and when I looked at the pictures that we were going to be doing, I was a bit intimidated. But Barbara is such a fantastic teacher and so well organized and supportive, it ended up being a very relaxing and productive experience.
