A native of Maryland, Judith has been an enthusiastic resident of Tucson since 2001. She is primarily a self-taught artist, but studied art at the Turkish School of Crafts in Istanbul; Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Maine; and Rugg Road Studio in Boston.
Judith’s previous work as a tapestry designer and weaver informs her current mixed media collage work. As a state-juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, Judith worked in the New Hampshire Artist-in-the-Schools Program, introducing fiber techniques to elementary and secondary students.
The horizontal and vertical structural aspects unique to the woven piece appear in her mixed media works as partial or disguised structural grids. Strong colors, geometric shapes, and textural elements become part of the finished design. Collage is an experimental and contemporary medium that allows the artist to unite the seemingly disconnected and diverse images from our modern world into a composition that offers a new perspective.
Judith’s artistic intention is to use mixed media collage to create art that engages the viewer and offers visual pleasure and complexity.
