CancerGram, his 2017 Instagram diary based on having stage 4 cancer, is an experimental storytelling practice disseminated through social media. His 2020 social media essay, Drastic Treatment, considers the Donald Trump era through the lens of androgen deprivation therapy. In 2024, Darren founded stillrendering.org, an arts non-profit for artists who animate.
