Are you looking for a way to keep track of quotes, anecdotes, ideas, or other observations that grab your attention? This may be just the class for you. We will explore the benefits and techniques of keeping a commonplace book, a note-taking practice with a long history among naturalists, artists, and writers. The commonplace approach provides a way to record whatever comes up in daily life that inspires curiosity and invites reflection and creativity. As the class progresses, we will work on our own commonplace books, share what we learn about ourselves and the world, and explore ideas that emerge for creative projects.

Kristine has lived in the Sedona area since 2023, moving here from Southern Utah. She holds master’s degrees in environmental economics and creative writing, and her professional career has cast a wide net, including working in environmental conservation, as a naturalist guide, a freelance writer, and a college writing instructor. Her current avocations include writing poetry and creative nonfiction; exploring the region’s remarkable landscapes, flora, and fauna; and practicing yoga and tai chi.
