Dive into the delicious, time-honored medium of oil paint.
Whether you’re a seasoned artist or picking up a brush for the first time, this 6-week class presents a great opportunity to explore the essentials of oil painting—from composition to color mixing, blending, glazing, and finishing—while building the confidence to experiment and shape your unique style; all with plenty of personalized guidance provided.
One of the beauties of painting with oils is its forgiving nature. A creamy consistency and slow drying time gives you the freedom to rework, refine, or even completely reimagine your work without pressure. With that in mind, you can choose to focus on a single painting throughout the class, or create several, letting each evolve between sessions. We’ll provide inspiring subject matter to spark your creativity, but you’re certainly welcome to bring your own vision to life.
Come ready to fall in love with a medium that has captivated artists for centuries!
An equally accomplished painter, illustrator, writer and graphic designer, creativity is Patricia’s passion.
Her long creative career includes a lifetime devoted to the fine arts, as well as decades serving Fortune 500 clientele, entrepreneurs and everything in between, with projects ranging from illustration to branding campaigns to packaging to books. She is also the author-illustrator of an inspirational design book and three best-selling children’s books.
Fluidly shifting between realism and abstraction, her approach across mediums is both intuitive and disciplined, guided by an eye for detail, a spirit of originality, and a deep sensitivity for light and color. Widely exhibited from the New York/Philadelphia area to the Southwest, her works hang in private collection across the US and abroad.
Patricia finds continual inspiration in nature, imagination, and the process of creating itself—and finds great joy in encouraging others to explore their own artistic voice.

Sidenote: Oil-based or Water-based? Traditional oil paints (which is what I use) are oil-based and classically known for smooth blending, vibrant pigments, longer working time, and overall durability. Water-based oil paints provide low odor, simpler cleanup, and faster drying time – but also less vigorous color and less refined blending; water-based are a good option for people with strong chemical sensitivities, as no solvents are required.
Brushes:
A variety that includes flat, angled, filbert, round, and one or two that are 1.5” – 3” wide. Starter kits often include a basic combination, minus the larger brush, which you can buy separately.
Brush Brand Suggestions:
DaVinci
Princeton
Royal & Langnickel
Winsor & Newton
Sidenote: Natural or Synthetic bristles? Your choice. Natural brushes are stiffer; synthetics are softer and can be easier to clean. Both have their place, and each artist has their own preference.
