Supplies List
Feel free to use what you have on hand or adjust the colors and supplies to your preference. There’s no need to buy lots of new materials-this workshop is all about inspiring your mixed media art practice with what you already have!
Basic Supplies
- Pencil
- Black waterproof pen (such as a Micron or equivalent), Paint brushes (small and medium, flat and round), Water container
- Paper towels and/or baby wipes
- Scissors and/or craft knife with cutting mat. Glue stick (I like a large UHU glue stick)
- Matte medium or your favorite collage adhesive
- Hole punch (optional, I’ll bring my We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile)
- White Gesso
- Heat It Craft Tool or Heat Gun (optional for faster drying between layers)
Papers & Fabric
Watercolor paper, 9″ x 12″ or larger (a 30 -sheet pad is ideal) Mixed media paper, approximately 10 sheets (I like Distress Heavy Stock by Ranger)
Copy paper, approximately 10 sheets (for templates and experimentation)
Tracing paper or tissue paper (optional) Neutral or patterned fabric, at least 9″ x 12 ”
Paint
Acrylic paint and/or watercolor
Primary colors for mixing, plus any favorite colors you’d like to bring
A simple travel watercolor palette is wonderful if you have one
If you’d like to work with colors like those I’ll be demonstrating, I’ll be using:
- Dina Wakley Cheddar or Mustard Dina Wakley Ruby
- Dina Wakley Sapphire or Marine Dina Wakley Cocoa
- Dina Wakley Malachite Dina Wakley Sand Dina Wakley Olive
For white highlights, bring one of the following:
White paint pen, white gel pen, or Dr. Ph. Martin’s Bleed Proof White
Fabric & Stitching (Optional) Various small fabric scraps
Embroidery floss, waxed thread, or your favorite stitching thread
Hand-sewing needle
Small bits of lace, ribbon, or trim
Meaningful Objects & Treasures
Bring a small collection of meaningful objects such as shells, buttons, keys, charms, pins, small photographs or photocopies, and tiny keepsakes
Containers for Tiny Shrines & Assemblage
Bring one or more:
Matchboxes Altoids tins
Small vintage containers
Other small containers suitable for creating a tiny shrine or reliquary
Optional Favorites
Water-soluble pencils or crayons, pastels, stencils, or stamps
We like to have a table to share favorite supplies, stamps, stencils, and collage fodder paper
Instructor Will Provide
Jesse will provide templates, collage paper, some fabric choices, and lots of prompts and examples
Sewing machines will be available, as well as simple jewelry-making tools for creating trinkets.
