Dynamic Portraits in Colored Pencil with Jesse Lane

April 9-11, 2027 | Friday-Saturday | 10 am – 4 pm

Create a dynamic, realistic portrait in colored pencil with award-winning artist Jesse Lane.

Jesse guides students step by step, sharing his signature style for creating work as rich and nuanced as any oil painting.

In this workshop, everyone draws the same portrait as Jesse gives detailed demos and works with students one on one.

Jesse will share his special techniques for:
• Layering and blending for smooth depth and richness
• Creating texture
• The secrets to Skin Tones
• Color within color
• Dynamic eyes
• Compelling composition
• And much more

These techniques can then be applied to any drawing, even still lifes and landscapes. Students are provided with the image already outlined on drawing paper and a reference photo.

Jesse Lane

Jesse Lane is one of the world’s top colored-pencil artists.

His honors include top awards from the Colored Pencil Society of America, the International Guild of Realism, “International Artist” Magazine and the Salmagundi Club.

Jesse’s compelling portraits have been displayed on the covers of publications including “The Artist’s” Magazine and “International Artist,” and his work has been featured in “Professional Artist,” “Southwest Art,” “Fine Art Connoisseur,” “The Washington Post” and “Huffington Post.”

Jesse lives in The Woodlands, Texas, with his wife, Kinsey, who is a talented ceramics artist. He loves sharing his passion for colored pencil in workshops throughout the United States and online.

Cancellation Policy

Registration

Each student must enroll individually
Students may register online or by calling the Sedona Arts Center’s Administrative Offices in the Art Barn, toll-free at 888-954-4442 or locally at 928-282-3809
Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express are accepted or student may pay with cash or check by registering in person during office hours at the Art Barn

In-Person and Online Workshops

Payment in full is due upon registration, or a payment plan can be put in place by the student upon check-out through Sezzle.
There is a $125 Cancellation Fee for any cancellations made before March 9, 2027. Remaining balance will be refunded.
There are no refunds after March 9, 2027.
If Sedona Arts Center cancels the workshop for any reason, all payments made will be refunded in full.

Note: If traveling to Sedona, we strongly urge students to purchase refundable airline tickets or travel insurance in case of workshop cancellation due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen changes. Sedona Arts Center is not responsible for non-refundable ticket purchases or lodging fees.

Important Message

The Sedona Arts Center is not responsible for providing make-up sessions or issuing refunds, credits, or transfers for courses cancelled or missed as a result of illness, emergencies, or other events beyond our control. There are absolutely no refunds after the cut-off date for any reason, unless the Sedona Arts Center has to cancel the workshop, then all fees paid will be refunded in full.
