Joy Wolfe

Joy Wolfe has been an advocate for the arts for over 40 years and views herself as an artist and lifelong learner who is passionate about educating the public to why the arts are vitally important to our culture and humanity.

She has studied art history, commercial art, fine art, interior design, marketing, small business management, and fine art appraising. Joy is a former member of the PPFA, Professional Picture Framers of America and has been a custom picture framer for many established award winning artists around the world.

In 2007, Joy’s passion brought her to Amsterdam to study art history and interior design respectively at the Van Gogh and other museums in Holland. After a decade in interior design she pivoted to working with artists and collectors.

After two years of documenting and organizing the collection of Master Artist Jon Arfstrom, Joy started a 501c3 non-profit in 2018 for his wife and family. He left an indelible legacy and collection of over 2000 pieces of fine art.

Joy is on the Board of Directors for the Atelier Studio Program of Fine Arts in Minneapolis. She teaches workshops in DIY Framing and Art Collection Management, helps fundraise and is the Curator of the Lynn Maderich Collection for the Atelier. She has curated dozens of art exhibitions, given lectures on artists and works as a liaison with families on art legacy.

Fine Art Advocates was founded to incorporate the multiple disciplines Joy values and to be a strong voice for the arts. If you are looking for assistance as an artist, or art collector in need of advice in the field of art, I highly recommend Joy Wolfe of Fine Art Advocates. I met Joy in 2017 and she has brought a needed fresh awareness and healthy perspective to my personal business as a fine artist, teacher, and Director of The Atelier Studio Program of Fine Art. Joy, an artist herself, has shared her passion and skills in advocacy for the arts by teaching me and our artists how we can better present ourselves online, at exhibits and document and share our collections, as well as sharing information on art conservation, business skills and legacy building. Everyone that I know who has worked with her, has increased their level of confidence and success whether it is in creating art, cataloguing, preserving, selling or purchasing art. Her guidance includes both individually by appointment, and collectively in classes she teaches, and has taught at The Atelier, with hands-on demonstrations to insure a positive outcome. Joy covers a wide range of topics on art and the business of art. Her years of experience in the art world as a fine art representative, continued work experience in printing, framing, designing and preservation of art, plus her extensive knowledge as a qualified fine art appraiser gives her clients and students the best possible opportunities for success in their chosen field.

As a professional photographer with 40 years of experience I found Joy Wolfe’s class on Art Collection Management incredibly valuable. I shoot both commercially for local, national and international clients as well as a second business of fine art landscape photography. Needless to say, 40 years of pursuing this profession has left an enormous amount of imagery to keep track of. I have made the transition from film to digital early on. The prints and film are easy to keep track of but use a lot of filing cabinet space. The digital is also fairly easy to keep track of if I treat it as hard copies and create files within files for access. Her introduction to using the program of Artworks Archive, simplified a lot of duplication and time consuming work of tracking who has purchased what and when, as well as for how much. Her course on Art Collection Management allowed me to place everything in one location and offsite. Protecting my work and allowing me to give access to particular areas for clients interested in very specific types of work without having to grind through multiple pages not related to their interests. Joy’s ability to deliver a comprehensive and well thought out course allowed me to shorten my own filing workload time as well as creating easy access for clients. In addition to the Art Collection Management class she also offers a DIY Framing class. I found this particular class extremely helpful in helping me decide what type of framing and how to assess what will make my work come to life. In my estimation both of these classes are well worth the time and money.
