My hand-painted suncatchers and lightcatchers are for those who look for light in the darkest corners and see it in bursts of color.
As a child I was told not to focus on art and to stick with writing. As an adult I was told stained glass would always be expensive due to the components and amount of work involved and therefore only affordable by the lucky few.
Several years ago I decided to challenge both those statements and push the boundaries of what both I and stained glass “have” to be. These pieces are the result. I take glass that has been discarded/tossed aside and upcycle it into hand- painted, stained glass which I call “Lightcatchers” as well as smaller, hanging suncatchers.
The glass pieces I upcycle are all acquired locally so my art incorporates a bit of history with some new paint. Often these old glass items may end up in the trash so I like to think this gives them a new life and different way to enjoy them in our homes.
