Maggie Capettini has always been a creative, but she became a painter in 2011 when she discovered that she loved to paint nature. This was a natural fit, because she grew up surrounded by the many plants her mother tended, and her childhood summers were spent exploring the northern Wisconsin woods and waters, where the single, small television was typically tuned to golf, and it was much more interesting to spend time romping outdoors, observing and engaging with nature.

Today, nature inspires much of Capettini’s award- winning work, in both representational and abstract expressions. She paints en plein air (outdoors) and from life whenever possible, including in her own gardens, where her motto is “plant what I like to paint.” Capettini also brings her paintbox with her on vacations, capturing landscapes throughout the Midwest and beyond.

Raised and currently residing in the Chicagoland area, Capettini is a Resident Artist at Water Street Studios, making art in Studio 17. Her paintings are held in several public collections, as well as private collections in the United States and internationally. She enjoys traveling with her husband, their teenage son and daughter, and their two pug-mix dogs, Clover and Tug.
