Julie Shelton Snyder is a printmaker and painter based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Julie views her studio practice as an integral part of her spiritual practice as a contemplative Christian. Through art making, she attempts to express spiritual truths she cannot otherwise articulate. She considers abstraction the best means for this expression.
Julie participated in the artist-in-residence program sponsored by the Mokuhanga Innovation Laboratory (MI-LAB), learning traditional woodblock printmaking techniques while living at the base of Mt Fuji. She feels a strong affinity with the contemplative nature of the Japanese aesthetic, and she is drawn to mokuhanga because of its focus on natural materials.
Julie’s work has been exhibited in solo and group shows the US, as well as in Japan. She teaches mokuhanga and also facilitates workshops focused on creativity as a spiritual practice.
