Christine Diveley, born in Algeria, is an artist whose life and work reflect a rich tapestry of cultural influences and personal experiences. Her early years were shaped by the turbulence of war, prompting her family to relocate to Paris, France, where she would spend her formative years. The transition to Paris marked a new beginning for Christine and her family, setting the stage for her educational and professional journey.

Christine’s academic pursuits began at the prestigious Sorbonne University in Paris, where she earned a master’s degree in psychology. Her passion for creativity and design led her to explore a different realm of academia, culminating in a bachelor’s degree in interior design from the San Diego Design Institute in California in 1999. This educational foundation laid the groundwork for a successful career in interior design, a field in which she thrived for 14 years.

Despite her professional focus on interior design, Christine’s artistic inclinations were a constant presence in her life. Painting, which she considered a leisure activity, became a more prominent part of her life when she began working with acrylics in 2019. This new phase marked a significant shift in her creative expression, allowing her to delve deeply into abstract art.

Christine’s paintings are characterized by their atmospheric quality and abstract nature. She works impulsively, allowing the emotions and responses elicited by the canvas to guide her creative process. Her work is deeply influenced by the light and colors of the Mediterranean Basin, echoing the cultural heritage of her childhood.

Currently residing in San Diego, Christine has become an active participant in the art community, showcasing her work in numerous national juried shows. Her contributions to the art world are celebrated for their evocative use of color and light, reflecting a profound connection to her Mediterranean roots.

Christine Diveley’s journey from her childhood in North Africa to becoming an abstract artist in San Diego is a testament to her adaptability, creativity, and deep-seated connection to her heritage. Her art continues to captivate and inspire, bridging her past with her present through vibrant and evocative expressions.
