Happy New Year!
I have now been at the Sedona Arts Center for almost one year – and what a year it’s been! Between re-opening to in-person events and continued resurgences of COVID amid staffing shortages, it’s been a challenge. But it has also been a GREAT year – full of exciting opportunities and new programming.
We are looking forward to this weekend’s OUT OF THE FIRE exhibit and sale of our ceramics student artwork this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Our ceramics students are amazing and create fantastic work that is both high quality and affordable. The exhibit will be in our newly remodeled (last fall) Special Exhibits Gallery. If you haven’t yet seen it, please come check it out. The remodel was made possible, in part, from a grant from the TB Walker Foundation of which we are eternally grateful.
At the end of this month, we are launching Vision & Sound: An African America Experience. While we had hoped to hold an in-person Opening Event, due to COVID it will be via Zoom. The exhibit will still be open to the public on January 28 but the Opening talk will be held virtually at 4PM. More information about that will follow in the coming days.
Instead, we are inviting the Vision & Sound participating artists to attend CELEBRATE SEDONA on February 2 which will still be held in person (fingers crossed for great weather). You will have a chance to meet them, experience artist demonstrations, hear the Ratio Band (so great), sample terrific food from Wicked Good Food Truck and sip on a glass of wine or beer all safely outside in our parking lot. The exhibit will be open and masks will be required. Many more artist talks, demonstrations and lectures, as part of Vision & Sound, will be taking place over the course of February so please come check out this historic exhibit and events throughout the month.
We have been getting inquiries about our Juried Member Show and YES it will be happening. We are switching to a new online ARTIST CALL system that has taken longer than we anticipated to get up and running. Please be patient and be on the lookout for the notice. The show itself will take place March 4 – 31. So mark your calendars!
We are also holding a special fundraising event this year – SAC HOME SHOW: BIRDY STYLE – which will take place April 4 – 14. We are currently accepting birdhouses and bird-themed art which will be for sale and via silent auction at a culminating event – the Birdy Gala – on April 14. If you are interested in donating a piece for this exhibit and sale, please contact gala@sedonaartscenter.org to get a donation form and more information. Donation forms are also available in the Sedona Arts Center Gallery.
Also don’t forget to check out our Gallery. We have added several new artists and there is always something special you can add to your collections. New work is added weekly. Please come visit!
Classes and workshops are always available to check out on our website and we look forward to a busy spring season.
I hope to see you at the Arts Center very soon!
Yours,
Julie
