Mike Medow

"I. am surprised for one thing, that I have done so much wood sc1dpture and painting. Although my portfolio does not include everything that I have done, I am reminded of the Intensity that went Into my work at so many different periods, and of the many often purely physical ·sculpting and painting problems I had to overcome. I would like to think that some of this energy has been captured In my work so that others can feel It."

About the artist

Biography

Mike Medow was born in Chicago 1944 and has been a resident of Sedona since 1987. Self-taught, he has always been compelled to create. The majority of his sculptures are hand-carved highly polished figures made from a variety of woods. Other sculpture mediums include hand-carved stone, cast bronze and outdoor sculpture made from welded steel. The figures have a great sense of sculptural balance and form. Medow strives to create a long-lasting feeling of calmness by creating shapes and lines that are tireless and can be handed down for generations.

He calls his sculptures “Figurescapes” and attempts to use them to inspire and refresh the human spirit In the same manner as the austere harmony of. a Zen rock garden. In his paintings, he also creates a sense of calmness and full shape, be it figurative or still life. After years of working long days and nights, he enjoys his work more than ever. His works are In many private collections nationally and in Europe, including many commissioned pieces.
