4/17, Bronze on Marble Base
The original of this bronze scuplture was carved in Arizona from Arizona Onyx; Thus, the inspiration for the name Desert Madonna. I encourage people to interpret my abstract forms in whatever way suits them, but I see a mother craddling a child in this sculpture. To me, the swing of her long hair flowing over her hips makes the back as interesting as the front. The patina (the outside color of the bronze resulting from chemical reactions from materials applied on the surface) is intense and quite beautiful.
