For the online version of his workshop ” Watercolor Secrets Revealed!” Tom has added a lot of value through sessions both before and after the workshop and students will also be able to replay demonstrations after they have taken place so that you can revisit techniques and process while you are painting!

Past students have said of his workshops… “Rather than coming out with perfect little copies of what Tom does, I came out with a wealth of watercolor techniques which I can utilize in my painting.” “The best workshop I have ever had”… “Never a dull moment”… “Learned more in one day than I have in years”… “Patient, positive and knowledgeable.”  Tom was listed as one of the nations top 20 teachers by watercolor magazine.

“I want you all to have a great time in this workshop and I want to motivate you to paint more and better! I will share with you all the secrets I know about painting and provide you with rich visuals to make this a great experience.”

We will use the ZOOM and Youtube formats which will allow for a to 2 camera presentations, great close- ups, a visual connection for both you and your questions and, I  will be able to see you and your artwork. All you need is a computer, and an Internet connection. You will be sent a link prior to class and all you need to do is download the free zoom app then just click on my invitation and we will be live.

Check out the studio set-up we’ll be using in this preview!

The 1st day we will paint several small paintings that will give you a visual example of the building blocks that I have to create a successful work of art.  These lessons include

  • a painting on how to think like an artist
  • how to start a painting & what stages to follow for unity
  • a painting on how to paint loose
  • spray bottle techniques & brush stroke techniques
  • color mixing and application
  • value studies, and how to prepare for success

I will be available ” LIVE ” all day for demonstrating, allowing time for the students to paint, and answer questions. Each lesson I will demonstrate and then allow time for you to paint and ask questions if needed. We will take a one-hour break for lunch. In the afternoon we will continue with painting these lessons together.

DAYS 2  – 4

On these days the format will start with a youtube demonstration painting where you can see how the previous day’s lessons are applied. I will complete a painting and again you can ask questions and interact with me with your questions.  You will see some great close-ups as you watch the painting evolve. After the morning demo you will have time to paint on your own either from your own subject or even copying the painting I just demonstrated. We will come together again as a group live at 3:30 where I can answer questions, review your work, and offer suggestions. Class will end at 4:30 or 5. During these last 3 days I want to share with you 3 different ways to create a painting.

  • the direct approach
  • the colorful 1st wash approach
  • the ‘WOW” factor first format

Again, there will be lots of visuals, demonstrations, close-ups, workshop charts, individual help, and personalize critiques.

As a bonus for signing up to take this online workshop you will also receive…

  • a Q/A meeting via ZOOM prior to class
  • a bonus demo to watch at your leisure before class
  • free access for a month to the website  where I and others provide over 350 video snippet lessons
  • a follow up ZOOM session (1 and a 1/2-hour meeting) 1 week after the workshop where I can answer questions and offer additional help if you have any questions.

Tom Lynch

Tom Lynch

Tom has been referred to as one of the nation’s premier watercolorists. He has written 7 books and hosted several award winning PBS TV Art Series. He was recently listed as one of the nation’s top 20 teachers by a leading Art magazine. He is represented by some of the nation’s leading museums and art galleries. He has been the spokesperson for the entire National Art Materials Trade Association, and continues to be the international spokesperson for many leading art material manufacturers. Tom is currently featured on the new cable TV channel Visual Arts Network, and in 2007 he became the CMO and featured artist for Art Academy Live (the leading on-line education source).

With his uniquely styled landscape paintings, he strives for a level of excitement, movement and resonance that seems to push somewhere beyond what the environment naturally provides.

When considering subjects he tries to search for something striking; like the color of the sky, the direction of natural light, pattern of shadows, or the glint of sunlight on water. He then embellishes those striking features.

Lynch hopes that by accentuating those things that are sometimes easy to miss, he can provoke viewers to … “Have something to think about, not just something to see”. Each painting Tom creates can be seen as special. “I feel it’s the job of the artist to bring to the viewer the best of what can be found in the landscape along with a little creativity or exaggeration … normal and ordinary are not for me.”
