Dive into the transformative process of turning paper into stunning sculptural vessels. Guided by Crystal, you’ll explore innovative techniques to craft three-dimensional forms that embody personal themes, such as the body, a sense of home, or pure abstraction. Experiment with constructing designs both with and without permanent inner armatures, giving you the freedom to shape your vision.

Expand your artistic practice with mixed media options, including:

  • Mark-making and staining paper for surface design
  • Stitching and textural embellishments.
  • Incorporating salvaged and natural materials.
  • Finishing with encaustic wax for depth and visual impact.

This workshop invites you to reimagine the concept of a vessel—its shape, purpose, and meaning—while providing the tools and inspiration to bring your ideas to life. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a curious beginner, you’ll leave with newfound skills and the confidence to push your creative boundaries.

Join us for this immersive journey and create art that’s as unique as you are.

Crystal Marie

Crystal Marie

Crystal Marie considers herself to be “a material girl” when it comes to her art practice, which is rooted in collage. Evolving to include three-dimensional sculptures and assemblages, Crystal’s work speaks to both physical location and identity. Her process begins with an experimental approach, allowing what she’s brought to the table to inform her decisions as she builds layers of texture and meaning.

A Chicago based mid-career artist currently residing in Kansas City, Crystal Marie has one book published on the art of collage and is writing a second book about overcoming the blocks commonly encountered in the studio. Crystal has exhibited her work in many fine art exhibitions and solo shows, earning her gallery representation and the coveted 2018 Racine Art Museum Artist Fellowship.
