Star Trails – Starry Night Crash Course
with Charles Ruscher

Take your digital photography skills to the next level with a Starry Night Crash Course!

Taking photos of the night sky and seeing just how many stars there are is always awe inspiring. Creating new compositions and experimenting with the stars has been an on-going quest for instructor, Charles Ruscher. In this workshop we will run thru the complete workflow; establishing compositional ideas using software to scout and pre-visualize, planning the shoot with astronomical software, exploring camera settings and lenses, being out in the night to photograph the stars and the next day into the computer where we cover organization, development, noise reduction, star stacking, stitching, compositing and finishing touches.

Software Covered: Google Earth, Photo Pills (phone app), Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop, StarStaX, Hugui (stitching) & Color Effects Pro plugin

Required Gear (see Materials List above)

Day 1:  1pm-10/11pm with a 1.5 hour break for dinner – North Studio / Outside (specific location to be determined and communicated by instructor – somewhere under the starry skies!)

Day 2:  9am-4:30pm with 1.5 hour break for lunch – South Studio

Charles combines his love of beauty, nature, adventure and people into a creative outlet where he seeks to produce extraordinary works of art.  He has a deep connection to the night sky having lived and camped in Northern Arizona for the over 29 years with brilliantly dark skies.  This love of the stars and a fascination with the sky as it changes from season to season calls him out quite often.  His late-night forays into nature is also a time for him to find peace, contemplate life, and be in constant appreciation of our magnificent planet.  Over the last few years he has enjoyed sharing this awe by playing with clients out in these landscapes and showing them this beauty while photographing them in it.  Always willing to share his experience, a degree in Technology Education serves him well while teaching workshops and helping fellow photographers that cross his path.
