Sandstone Waves

The Wave is a sandstone rock fornation located near the Arizona-Utah border, in the South Coyote Buttes. It is famous among hikers and photographers for its colorful, undulating forms, and the rugged 6mile round trip hike to reach it. This image was taken within a quarter mile at an equally popular site known as The Second Wave. It is best photographed just before sunset when the rocks behind it go into shadow. This requires a difficult hike out in the dark, but it is well worth the effort.
