Mosaic Collage Pendants with Michelle Sales

Tuesday, December 5, 2023 | 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

  • Experience: All levels of experience are welcome.
  • Medium: Mixed – beads, found objects, jewelry.
  • Materials List: Click the Materials List tab above to see the list of materials students need to bring with them to class.
  • Registration: Each student must enroll individually.
  • Location: Sedona Arts Center, South Studio.

Lab fee: There is a lab fee of $10.00 payable to instructor upon arrival for materials she will be bringing for you.

This one day class will incorporate beads and/or found objects to create two beautiful and unique pendants. Participants will learn how to utilize a non-toxic epoxy clay to embed objects and beads into a metal pendant tray. Proper placement of beads, design, and composition will be explored. Several examples of finished pendants and necklaces will be provided for reference.  This is a fun and inspirational class that can be used as a spring board for the creation of many types of jewelry and collage work. The class is appropriate for all skill levels.

We Will Cover:

  • How to mix non-toxic epoxy clay.
  • Types of pendant trays available.
  • How to embed objects and beads into epoxy clay.
  • How to embed beads threaded on a beading needle, to create a precise layout of your pendant designs.
  • Design and color composition to improve your pendant creations.

ARTIST  BIOGRAPHY

Michelle Sales was born in Chicago, Illinois where she lived much of her life. She recently moved full time to Sedona finding it immensely inspirational in the creation of her work. Michelle has been expressing herself forcefully with pigment and mixed media since childhood. Her early work was as a painter, but sculpture soon became her focus. Currently, Ms. Sales works in two and three dimensional media, as well as mixed media jewelry design.

In 1998, Michelle Sales received a Recognition Scholarship from The School of the Art Institute in Chicago. She received Her BFA in 2001. Her area of interest was mixed media and material studies.

Nature and its myriad shapes textures and colors inform her work today. Ms. Sales enjoys hiking and creates photo journals taken from these hikes. These photos serve as inspiration and are often incorporated into her work.

Ms. Sales maintains a working studio in Sedona Arizona. She teaches workshops and classes in mixed media and jewelry design.

Michelle Sales’ work has won awards and recognition in both national and international exhibitions. Her pieces have been shown for many years at SOFA Chicago, Navy Pier (Sculptural Object Functional Art) and can be found in private and museum collections. Ms. Sales is represented by Vale Craft Gallery, Chicago IL

Student need to bring the following supplies:

  • Size 11 seed beads 4 different colors
  • Size 8 seed beads 2 different colors
  • Size 10 or 11 long beading needles
  • Scissors
  • A small packet of unscented Baby Wipes
  • Tweezers to pick up small objects for embedding
  • It is beneficial to bring a small overhead light such as an Ott light.  Extension cords will be provided
  • Found objects: These may include: larger beads, jewelry findings, small stones, buttons, bits and pieces of chain, fabric, small photos, shells, lace… Use your imagination!

Keep in mind pendant trays are a 2” x 1” rectangle or 2-3 inch circles and squares, so small findings will work better!

You will be able to choose from several sizes and shapes of trays to create your pendant.

Note:  Beading supplies can be purchased at any Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or the Sedona Bead Garden Store.

Registration and Cancellation Policies

Registration

  • Each student must enroll individually
  • Classes must be paid in full upon registration
  • Students may register online or by calling the Sedona Arts Center’s Administrative Offices in the Art Barn, toll-free at 888-954-4442 or locally at 928-282-3809
  • Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express are accepted or student may pay with cash or check by registering in person during office hours at the Art Barn

In-Person and Online Classes Cancellation

  • Students must cancel or transfer at least 7 days prior to the first day of class
  • If a student cancels or transfers before the 7-day cut-off, a 15% fee will be applied
  • If a student cancels within 7 days prior to class, there are no refunds
  • If Sedona Arts Center cancels the class for any reason, all payments made will be refunded in full

Important Message

The Sedona Arts Center is not responsible for providing make-up sessions or issuing refunds, credits, or transfers for courses missed as a result of illness, emergencies, or other events beyond our control. There are absolutely no refunds after the cut-off date for any reason, unless the Sedona Arts Center has to cancel the workshop, then all fees paid will be refunded in full.
