Plein Air Painting Workshop on location at Guanajuato, Mexico

September 17 – 23, 2023

  • 9/17: arrival at Alma del Sol B & B.
  • 9/18 – 9/22:  Workshop days.
  • 9/23: Departure day from Alma del Sol B & B.

Experience Level – Students should have a good foundation in drawing.

Bienvenidos todos!!!

The spirit, history and colors of Guanajuato come to life as we explore and paint cafes, beautiful fountains, spanish colonial architecture and gardens.  Our five-day workshop also includes an optional day-trip to wonderful San Miguel de Allende (there will be an extra nominal fee per person for transportation.)

This workshop is a wonderful opportunity to gather info from your oil studies and drawings done in plein air. I will show you how to capture the vitality of what you see with oil sketches, so you can create larger paintings in your home studio and also keep the experience and memories of your visit to Mexico alive and vibrant.  With daily demonstrations, learn to compose, find your focal point and mix color from a limited palette.

Alma del Sol is a lovely B & B recommended for lodging right in the heart of Guanajuato. It is within walking distance of everything and located next to the magnificent Templo de la Compania!  Hugo Anaya is the host and breakfast is included!  Please be sure to reserve your suite as it is first-come first-serve!

Travel Information:  A passport is necessary to travel to Mexico and students are responsible for booking their own transportation and lodging at the B & B. Students fly into the Leon airport and take a taxi to Alma del Sol, arriving on the evening of 9/17, and there will be a Welcome Dinner for everyone that first night. Painting locations will be within walking distance throughout the workshop with a day-trip to San Miguel Allende (van transportation will cost a little extra for the day-trip.)

Registered students are required to sign an Assumption of Risk form and returning a completed form to the Sedona Arts Center either by mail or email before travelling to Guanajuato.
