Embrace the wild and honor your untamed heart in Alaska while making memorable art.

July in Alaska is synonymous with gorgeous weather. So it comes as no surprise that flowers are at their prime, the wildlife is active and the days are warm in the land of the midnight sun.

We will mix colors in rich hues inspired by the lush landscape, and create mono prints on a Gelli plate. As we amass a stack of abstract printed paper we will choose our favorites to incorporate into our art journals for compositions featuring circles, symmetry and symbolism that are personalized and inspiring to each individual.

Circles are symbols of unity, wholeness and harmony and are often found in artwork featuring progress, regeneration and renewal. We will create unique pieces in the form of mandalas, and abstract landscapes all while learning more about the symbols of local indigenous tribes, and be instructed on how to let the area inspire you while creating art in your own style.

If you are looking to escape the everyday, to be inspired in a free frontier and want to enjoy a creative wellness practice with other kindred spirits let’s circle round and relish in the wild of Alaska together!

**NOTE:  The fee does not include travel, lodging or meals. Students are responsible for their own expenses.

My parents tried really hard to discourage me from making art as my career but I’ve always been a rebel. I’ve kept a regular practice of painting and drawing throughout my career. My latest obsession is art journaling. I’ve had long spans of time when I felt like an imposter and other times when I felt I’d never run out of ideas and there wasn’t enough time to make everything I wanted to make. I’ve learned that I have to show up to create regularly. Art journaling is my way of showing up. When I put in the hours anyway whether I feel like making art or not one thing leads to another and the good stuff comes out. I don’t make things I love every day and a lot of the time I make something different than what I set out to make but I’ve learned to just enjoy the act of making stuff. It fills me, it heals me, it gives me the language to say things in a way that I don’t have words for and I love that. I also love sharing what I know and encouraging others to create. So if you really like art, and you think you want to make stuff because you feel called to create I’m here for you, let’s do this!

What an amazing teacher. She teaches without being pendantic, and I feel like the options are wide open, I could do just the bare assignment or build on each assignment as I feel I can.
