“Social media has become an integrative component of everyday life. The younger generations have grown up in a world where aspects of various social media platforms have always existed. My creative research examines the effects social media has on mental health and the hostile environments individuals are exposed to online. I show this dynamic by ‘calling-out’ those who leave negative comments on other people’s social media posts. I collected these responses from platforms, such as Instagram, YouTube, and news outlets. They range from death threats, racism, sexism, and insults based on a person’s physical appearance.
My current work examines the responses to the overturn of Roe vs. Wade, student loan forgiveness, and the ethical choices of political candidates by creating physical forms of online reactions.”
