Bio

I am Lisa. I live and work in Las Vegas, Nevada. When I’m not teaching art to children or working as the youth program coordinator for Prison Family Alliance, I like to paint. Creativity is a living breathing force of nature and I try to capture it in whatever way I can.

Artist Statement

The painting process layers subjects, one at a time, to create a sense of a series of moments or one sweeping motion. When the ordinary is overlooked I feel vulnerable within the subject matter. I like to pick atypical subjects such as shoes, mundane objects or figures. The work appears emotional and abstractly narrative, too confusing to be illustration yet just identifiable enough to be considered figurative. The use of intuition combined with a technical approach with painting creates an atmosphere of spunk and rebellion.

The pieces make me feel the vibration of life, the pounding of a heart beat, the motion of mother earth, they are moving, fleeting and visceral, a monument to a mundane moment that would otherwise be forgotten. The work relates to a broader cultural conversation about regression, adult immaturity and the need for comic relief in a world full of tension.
