Through symbol-laden narratives, I employ street signs to be stand-in figures for unconventional self-portraiture. As I find and photograph these ubiquitous figures along daily commutes and solo travels, I also find myself projecting feelings of isolation, decay, and imperfection upon them. These rigid and mass-produced templates transcend geographic confines and seamlessly blend into the most scenic of landscapes. By infusing these metallic effigies with anthropomorphic vitality, I allow myself to feel connected to terrains both local and foreign. With ink, gouache, and humor I memorialize not only the physical coordinates of my journey but also the ephemeral emotions, whether iridescent or dulled, evoked at those specific moments.
